title A D-Day Veteran's Dakota Flight, Cherbourg, Normandy - 5th June 2026 intro It's the first decent day of weather and the two Dakotas - Pegasus and Drag 'em Oot - are making up for lost time by doing most of the week's parachute drops in the one day. As well as several "hot loads", where the planes are still running whilst the next batch of parachutists load up, there's also a trip for an actual veteran of the D-Day landings, who's about 103 years old. He's not actually parachuting, but there is a group who is, along with about six free-fallers. Before that, Nosher, Clive and the Essex Massive are off on a mission to source baguettes for the Aero Legends pilots and ground crew. imgp0176 The marina near Port Chantereyne in Cherbourg imgp0177 Fancy buildings on Place Napoléon imgp0178 The back streets of Rue Auvray imgp0179 It's quiet on Rue de la Paix by the hotel imgp0180 A herd of cruise-ship tourists roams around imgp0185 We're on a baguette mission in Carrefour imgp0187 Clive in Carrefour imgp0188 We have several bags of baguette sandwiches imgp0191 Quai Alexandre III imgp0192 A freight line heads to the port imgp0199 The Montana ANG C-130 and its eight-blade props imgp0201 Parachute D-bags are hauled off imgp0203 Drag 'em Oot and a field of daisies imgp0222 A Hercules taxis around imgp0227 A Charlie-130 is taxiing imgp0236 Another group of parachutists heads off imgp0245 Pegasus is ready to depart imgp0252 Drag 'em Oot with engines running imgp0256 The two Dakotas are about to head off imgp0271 A once-in-a-lifetime shot of five Hercules imgp0277 The final three US Hercules take off from Cherbourg imgp0308 Pegasus follows Drag 'em Oot in to land imgp0315 The D612 Route du Cap imgp0329 Some last-minute checks are made imgp0331 A parachutist waits imgp0335 The first group heads off to board Pegasus imgp0344 There's a last-minute pep talk imgp0346 Clive leads the other group onto the airfield imgp0358 Drag 'em Oot returns from a sortie imgp0366 There's a "hot load" of parachutists under way imgp0370 Parachutists are checked as they board imgp0382 The two Dakotas are ready for another drop imgp0393 Keith holds open the gate for the next group imgp0394 Robert drives over the 103-year-old veteran imgp0398 The D-Day veteran is in a wheeled chair imgp0412 Two old-timers are ready to fly imgp0419 Some free-fallers wait to board imgp0422 Pegasus is still loading up imgp0432 Back in the café, Robert's getting coffee imgp0434 Cath and Keith meet the D-Day veteran imgp0436 The Quai de Caligny imgp0439 An enormous cruise ship has appeared overnight imgp0440 Creme Fresh graffiti on a building imgp0441 A statue of Napoléon
