title A Visit to the Cottage and Lunch With Sis, Throwleigh, Devon - 4th May 2026 intro It's the morning after Hannah and Sean's wedding, and after breakfast we walk back up to the village hall to see what's occuring and to give Hannah the set of whistles that Fred's made - partly as a science project and partly as a wedding gift - out of 15mm Hep2O plastic pipe. Then, we drive over to Throwleigh to see Sis and Matt and to take the dogs for a walk and do a bit of lunch, and later on in the early evening we go over to Hannah's parents' cottage a few miles down the road from King's Nympton for some left-over wedding food and a bit of a chat. The following morning we say goodbye to the rented house and head off on the 300 mile drive back to Suffolk. imgp8373 We find an actual working payphone and make a call imgp8375 The marquee is almost fully disassembled imgp8377 Hannah has a go on Fred's physics-project whistle imgp8378 Yesterday's stuff is packed away imgp8380 A table full of wedding flowers imgp8381 The marquee cover is laid out to dry imgp8382 King's Nympton parish hall imgp8384 Isobel heads back with some flowers imgp8385 King's Nympton houses imgp8386 Isobel walks past the excellent Grove Inn imgp8393 A new Charles III Rex post box imgp8394 A view of the road towards Burrington imgp8395 Perhaps the only working payphone in Devon imgp8397 We're at Sis's for lunch imgp8399 Isobel outside Sis's gaff imgp8400 A relatively rare KX100 phonebox in 1990s branding imgp8401 A shed merges with the undergrowth imgp8402 Matt takes the dogs for a walk imgp8403 Throwleigh in Devon imgp8404 Thatched cottages in Throwleigh imgp8405 We investigate a 1920s memorial cross imgp8407 Bluebells in the churchyard at Throwleigh imgp8411 Matt opens the gate imgp8413 Stepping stones through the boggy ground imgp8414 Harry kicks some dandelion seed-heads imgp8415 There's a large shiny beetle on a rock imgp8418 Harry looks back in the woods imgp8419 The dogs fight over a big stick imgp8421 Doug Dog gives up on the stick imgp8422 Harry and Matt head off back up the path imgp8423 A tree is wrapped in epic ivy branches imgp8424 Harry's got his own giant stick imgp8425 The two dogs imgp8426 Harry roams around with his stick imgp8428 Matt, Fred and Doug Dog near Throwleigh imgp8429 Sis in her lounge imgp8432 We visit Hannah's parents' cottage imgp8433 The cottage near King's Nympton imgp8434 We eat some left-over wedding food imgp8436 Fred plays some random tunes on his whistle imgp8437 There's an awesome view from the back garden imgp8445 The rented house's kitchen imgp8446 The lounge of our rented pad - the Hawthorns imgp8448 We say goodbye to our hired cottage imgp8449 The delights of Taunton Deane services imgp8450 Isobel heads off on a search for a tiny coffee imgp8454 The anti-bird bin chains aren't working imgp8455 A lovely silver Jaguar drives out of the car park imgp8456 We get dirty road food just off the A303 imgp8458 Harry tries to duck out at Countess Services imgp8459 Isobel and Fred imgp8460 We wander back to the car imgp8461 A derelict non-BT phone box imgp8462 Countess Services just off the A303 imgp8463 The hire car waits in the overflow car park
