title A Pub Walk to Ampersand, Diss, Norfolk - 17th November 2024 intro It's time for another pub walk, and this time we decide to head over to Diss. The route starts with a walk to the Crossways at Scole for a quick beer, and then continues via Miller's Lane - a path just off the Scole Bypass that had been seen on a summer BSCC bike ride, thanks to Gaz's off-road route. That joins up to the path past Frenze Hall - where we stop to explore the 13th-century church of St. Andrew - which then joins up with Sandy Lane for a short walk down to Ampersand. After a couple of beers there, we walk out behind the golf club to cross what used to be farmland and which is now an extension of the golf course to cross the A143. Then it's the path behind All Saints at Stuston and the fields up beside the B1077 to Brome. All in all, it's a nice varied walk of about eight miles. imgp8101 The leaves have nearly gone on the Oaksmere's drive imgp8103 We're on the path beyond Warren Hills imgp8104 We walk around the gate on the path imgp8105 The map is checked on Scole Bridge imgp8106 We stop off at Scole Crossways for a quick drink imgp8107 Isobel in Scole Crossways imgp8108 There's a coaching arch near the Scole Inn imgp8109 A stone commemorates MP John Macgregor imgp8113 We walk up the path by the Scole bypass imgp8119 Miller's Lane turns out to be a nice walk imgp8121 Isobel on an autumnal Miller's Lane imgp8122 High voltage wires are back-lit imgp8123 A pair of trees in a field imgp8125 Dead tree branches imgp8126 Diss Business Centre on Dark Lane imgp8129 Derelict buildings on the way to Frenze Hall imgp8131 More derelict buildings opposite Frenze Hall imgp8132 Tumble-down farm buildings imgp8133 Isobel wanders off to the church imgp8136 St. Andrew's Church in Frenze imgp8137 Some very primitive pews in St. Andrew's imgp8139 A curious fancy wooden cage in the church imgp8140 Some pieces of mediaeval glass in the windows imgp8141 A mediaeval floor brass imgp8142 Another mediaeval floor brass with crests imgp8143 The relics of Richard Nixon, not the POTUS imgp8145 An impressive covered pulpit imgp8146 Some other mediaeval artefact imgp8147 The church of St. Andrew in Frenze imgp8149 We're walking on a bit of Boudicca Way imgp8150 Frenze Beck and the footbridge over it imgp8151 The ford over Frenze Beck imgp8153 The sun shines through the trees near Frenze Beck imgp8154 A somewhat-redundant car park barrier imgp8156 Random metalwork at Anglia Grain imgp8158 The Seilf Emit clock is still there imgp8159 Isobel's at the bar in Ampersand's Tap Room imgp8161 Some sort of test brewing is underway imgp8162 Isobel at Ampersand Tap imgp8169 We cross the A143 by the golf course imgp8170 The Stuston bypass imgp8171 The red K6 phonebox stands out in Stuston imgp8173 Isobel scans a QR code on a sign imgp8176 All Saints Church in Stuston imgp8177 Deep drainage ditches in a field imgp8179 Pylons stride across the land near Brome imgp8180 The Devil's Handbasin garage imgp8181 A carpet of golden leaves at the Oaksmere
