title A Walk to the Railway Tavern, Mellis, Suffolk - 13th October 2024 intro In keeping with the recent-ish discovery of Sunday pub walks, with the Scole Crossways and Hoxne Swan already done, we have a look on a map for any others and realise that the Railway Tavern in Mellis isn't really that far away - an eight-mile round trip as it turns out. So that's what we do, with a walk via Thrandeston and Judas Lane, followed by a couple of beers. Before that, the Northern Lights return for the second time this year. imgp0002 The old Post Office in Diss is boarded up imgp6801 The north-west sky is filled with light imgp6805 The Northern Lights over the house imgp6808 There's an almost-vertical stack of red imgp6817 Another view of the aurorae over the house imgp6820 Looking up at an electricty pylon imgp6821 Isobel negotiates a small bridge imgp6822 We walk across the fields to Thrandeston imgp6823 Isobel pauses beyond another small bridge imgp6826 Some cows give us the hairy eyeball imgp6827 Isobel near the old pub in Thrandeston imgp6829 We head off up Judas Lane imgp6830 Judas Lane, between Thrandeston and Mellis imgp6834 Isobel checks her phone imgp6835 Some sort of pumping station in Mellis imgp6837 The mysterious Mellis Garden's gates imgp6838 Outside the Railway Tavern in Mellis imgp6840 Mellis's stained-glass K6 phonebox imgp6841 Isobel gets the beers in imgp6842 The Tavern's train-like seating imgp6849 Gypsy nags on Mellis common imgp6852 Isobel feeds the horses some fresh grass imgp6858 The ramshackle shed on the edge of Mellis common imgp6859 Isobel on the road back to Thrandeston imgp6862 Seagulls peck over freshly-ploughed soil imgp6865 Isobel strides off up the road imgp6868 A hare pauses in front of a stack of bales imgp6870 Funky orange fungus on a log imgp6874 An abandoned trailer of telegraph poles imgp6876 Some sort of wrecked silos or tanks imgp6878 Isobel wanders past a wrecked farm building imgp6879 A roof is missing some corrugated iron imgp6883 A perfect mushroom - upside down imgp6885 A squirrel perches on a fence post
