title Mama Afrika, and Richard Hawley at the UEA, Norwich - 16th June 2024 intro We're at the Cornhall in Diss for a rousing and thoughtful one-woman performance about the life of activist and singer Miriam Makeba. Then, we're at the village hall to play some table tennis, and finally we're off to the Lower Common Room at the University of East Anglia for a Richard Hawley gig, which Isobel gets tickets for on a whim a few days before as a Fathers' Day thing. As we get there early, there's time to have a quick look around at some of the UEA's famous 1960s modernist concrete architecture, including the listed "Ziggurat" student accomodation, before a quick drink in the students' union bar. We then wander round to the LCR to watch a good performance by Richard Hawley and his twenty guitars - seemingly one for each number. imgp0001 A beacon is constructed in Diss Park imgp0002 It's a full house in the Cornhall in Diss imgp0006 Anna Mudeka at the end of Mama Afrika imgp0016 Anna Mudeka sings as Miriam Makeba imgp0018 Mick the Brick at the airfield gate in Eye imgp0021 Mick pauses before we head across the airfield imgp0022 Dog Daisies near Gislingham imgp0025 The Cornhall on St. Nicholas Street in Diss imgp0027 Baby Lukáš really wants to play pool imgp0031 Isobel and Sue play table tennis imgp0035 The boys find an amusing balloon dog imgp0038 It briefly lashes it down outside Browne's imgp0039 Isobel and the boys hang around imgp0042 The UEA and the Students' Union imgp0043 Stark modernist architecture at the UEA imgp0044 Part of the UEA's famous Ziggurat imgp0047 Isobel checks her phone in the UEASU imgp0048 Stick game in the students' union bar imgp0049 The stage is set in the LCR imgp0051 James Bagshaw is the support act imgp0054 Our view from behind the light and sound desk imgp0060 Richard Hawley in a sea of green imgp0062 Another guitarist and the keyboard player imgp0068 Richard Hawley's got another guitar out imgp0073 Richard Hawley and the band imgp0083 More guitar action imgp0097 The big red Gibson comes out again imgp0099 The mostly-middle-aged crowd streams out
