title Sailing at the Lake, and the GSB at Mellis, Suffolk - 6th June 2024 intro The Gislingham Silver Band is playing for the D-Day 80 anniversary and beacon lighting on Mellis Common, just in front of the Railway Tavern. The band is sounding pretty good, the weather holds out, and there's even Gaz, Sandie and Jill from the BSCC - as well as Isobel, Fred (who's in the band) and Harry who's sort of there but is mostly doing his own thing. A few days before, we're over at Weybread for a bit of sailing and canoeing. imgp3073 The new dinghy is hauled out from its spot imgp3074 Harry and his friend Christopher scoop water out imgp3078 Isobel gets her canoe out of the shed imgp3081 The dinghy's on the beach after a sailing session imgp3085 We sit around eating a snack imgp3086 Isobel wanders off with a folding chair imgp3088 The GSB is set up under a marquee on the common imgp3090 The band in the marquee imgp3094 A bunch of piebald nags hang out near the band imgp3099 The head of the parish council chats to Adrian imgp3102 Isobel and Gaz chat to Sheila imgp3103 Gaz chats to Sheila about her book imgp3105 Ron's come along to watch the band imgp3106 The band's sign imgp3107 Ron and Adrian by the bus stop imgp3109 Harry's off doing his own thing in the long grass imgp3113 A flame-thrower lights up the beacon imgp3117 The crowd outside the Railway Tavern imgp3120 There's a pretty good turnout on the common imgp3127 The beacon is well alight imgp3129 Outside the Railway Tavern in Mellis imgp3133 The fire spreads out of the bottom of the beacon
