title A Long Walk Around the Airfield, Eye, Suffolk - 11th February 2024 intro We're off for a walk into Eye and then around the airfield, trying to find the lost footpath between the two runways of the old WWII base, so we can get across to Fen Farm shop. However, we walk up and down almost the entire length of the runway but it looks like Cranswick has fenced it off so it's no dice and we have to walk all the way back via Progress Way. It's a long haul alright. Before that, we have a drink and a bit of cake in Amandines in Diss, and note that the Mere is so full that the water-level mark is underwater and the Mere is flooding into the paved around around it. imgp0616 It's quiet on Church Street in Eye imgp0617 Amandines has got a nice bottle display going on imgp0620 The high-level water mark is under water at the Mere imgp0623 A cormorant has got a fish imgp0631 There's a pigeon explosion at the Mere imgp0634 A damp Mere Street in Diss imgp0635 Isobel looks for fruit and veg at the market imgp0636 The greengrocer's stripey tunnel imgp0637 It's wet out on the fields towards Eye imgp0639 Isobel looks out over the new housing estate site imgp0643 More little boxes are slapped up imgp0647 Generic houses on the new housing estate imgp0648 Isobel stumps off around the fields imgp0651 A dead tree trunk in the long grass imgp0652 An original perimiter road on Eye Airfield imgp0653 Pylon re-wiring pulleys imgp0654 A builder's van piles through floodwater imgp0655 The gas terminal at Eye Airfield imgp0657 Isobel roams around near the turbines imgp0659 A pile of building junk on the airfield imgp0663 The new gas power station is being built imgp0664 One of the old WWII buildings near Permastore imgp0665 A disused entrance to the airfield imgp0669 Isobel chats to some sheep
