title A Trip to Lindos and More Cats of Rhodes, Ρόδος και Λίνδος, Greece - 28th October 2023 intro There's a chance to see some of actual ancient Greece as we've booked a trip on the Triton boat from Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes to the small village of Lindos, about 30 miles down the coast. The trip's a bit more interesting than usual as the boat stops off on the way down, and back, to let people off for a swim - and one of the stops is none other than the bay used in the classic war film The Guns of Navarone. It's now known as Anthony Quinn Bay, after the eponymous actor in the film had tried (and ultimately failed) to buy it all as a centre for artists and film-makers. Once we get to Lindos, we head up the acropolis on the hill, however it's a hot day so the rest of the gang opt to head back down to a café, whilst Nosher stays on and climbs higher to explore. Then, after a sunset walk on the beach, we head off into the old town to find more cats. Finally, we're off on a late-night flight back, however Isobel sorts out the use of a "shower room" so she and Harry can have a last-minute swim and then we can have a shower before leaving for the airport. The taxi gets to the hotel earlier than planned, so we have loads of time to kill at the airport - where everything's closed - but there is something of a diversion as a bunch of gobshite boozed-up British younglings on the flight to Manchester are having a blazing row because Chloe snogged Cameron or something. Glasses are smashed and the police arrive to haul them all off for a night in the cells. imgp8487 A derelict building near Mandraki harbour imgp8490 The boat's gang plank imgp8493 The Guns of Navarone rock imgp8494 Harry looks out in Anthony Quinn Bay imgp8501 Isobel and other passengers go for a swim imgp8506 Passengers are on the lookout for dolphins imgp8507 A dolphin does its thing imgp8508 Another dolphin heads towards the boat imgp8516 A view of the acropolis of Lindos imgp8520 A tourist struggles onto a donkey imgp8522 The beach parasols of Lindos imgp8523 More tourists on donkeys imgp8526 The Chapel of Saint George Pahimahiotis imgp8529 Another donkey group heads up the hill imgp8530 The 180BC Rhodian trireme bas-relief imgp8531 Carvings on part of the original stoa imgp8533 A stone room with some archaeological bits imgp8535 Isobel and the boys sit on a rock imgp8536 The 4th-century Propylaea, or gatewy imgp8537 The remains of the church of St. John imgp8540 The remains of the Hellenistic Stoa imgp8541 A view over the town of Lindos imgp8543 The blue waters of the Aegean imgp8548 A large swallowtail butterfly floats around imgp8550 The temple of Athena Lindia, from 300BC imgp8567 More Greek columns imgp8572 There's an orange-juice bar near the acropolis imgp8573 A nice view on the path back down imgp8576 The whitewashed buildins of Lindos imgp8578 Plant pots on some steps imgp8579 An invisible cat of Lindos imgp8587 Harry plays around with his ice imgp8588 Another view of St. George Pahimahiotis imgp8590 The view from the Ginger Terrace café imgp8592 A view over Pallas Beach imgp8593 A makeshift shed in a cave imgp8595 The boys look for swimming gear imgp8600 The crystal-clear waters of the bay imgp8608 The boat stops off at another swimming spot imgp8611 Someone leaps off the boat imgp8617 Fred hurls himself in imgp8626 The boat Triton, back at Mandraki harbour imgp8630 We find a whole pile of kittens in a flowerbed imgp8631 Isobel's on Georgiou Papanikolaou imgp8632 Fred points at the old Imperial Hotel wreck imgp8635 The Finnish karaoke bar, Suomalainen Ravintola imgp8639 The boys are on the beach for another sunset imgp8641 The boys, with the Mitsis Grand in the background imgp8643 The sunset becomes an Instagram moment imgp8647 The sun kisses the horizon imgp8657 We're in the "tiny guitar" shop down the road imgp8660 Harry peers out for the boys' room imgp8662 The backstreet behind the hotel imgp8665 Isobel waits at the end of a long corridor imgp8667 Another bombed-out apartment block imgp8670 A restaurant has a vegan forcefield in action imgp8674 More destroyed-looking apartments imgp8677 The sun goes down over the Aegean imgp8682 Isobel sits on a wall and does phone stuff imgp8685 A plane comes in to land at Diagoras airport imgp8686 We visit a shrine in the cliff imgp8688 The sky goes pink over Akti Miaouli imgp8694 The sun has set imgp8697 We walk back to the hotel imgp8698 A Greek flag on the beach imgp8701 Huts on the beach imgp8702 A view over Nikiforou Mandilara imgp8703 It's time for white wine on the balcony imgp8707 Nosher flakes out for a bit imgp8711 Harry at the evening buffet imgp8716 Ouzo and Espresso Martinis by the pool bar imgp8718 The boys are in the games room imgp8722 Fred does a racing game imgp8723 Fred watches the entertainment imgp8727 Some sort of dancing occurs imgp8738 Our hotel room imgp8741 We hang out at the pool bar, killing time imgp8743 A Rhodian pay phone imgp8744 Isobel scopes out the "tiny guitar" gift shop imgp8746 A small cat roams around imgp8756 A dude on a moped feeds the cats with catfood imgp8768 Cats eat from a pile of tinned catfood on the ground imgp8769 Loads of jars of honey imgp8770 Some dude makes jewellry at a roadside stall imgp8772 We head off into the old town for the last time imgp8775 The fridge magnets are very good value in Rhodes imgp8776 We stop off for a last drink at Niki's Place imgp8781 Fred wanders past some weird mannequins imgp8782 One of the many city gates imgp8785 Fred finds a shop that has a good range of cubes imgp8787 Isobel checks out a Rubik's cube imgp8789 An artist paints a scene imgp8791 A derelict cocktail bar imgp8792 The boys walk past a wrecked building imgp8793 Traveland has long since closed up imgp8794 Isobel and Harry on the beach for a last swim imgp8805 More pink skies of the sea imgp8808 Sunset over the Mitsis Grand hotel imgp8811 Some late-night swimmers bob around imgp8813 The boys hang out in our "shower room" imgp8815 Fred and Isobel get last-minute drinks at the bar imgp8816 Harry plays stuff on his phone imgp8820 Diagoras Departure lounge at night imgp8821 It's quiet now the rowdy gobshites have gone
