title Camping on the Edge at Snettisham Beach, Norfolk - 28th August 2023 intro Isobel books a few days at a campsite solely on the basis that it was right next door to where she and Harry had been camping with the Scouts the week before. However, it's not exactly high end, what with its grim home-made toilet facilities comprising of portakabins lashed together with duct tape, and to add to the fun, half the Traveller population of East Anglia appear to be living there on a semi-permanent basis, which gives the whole place a certain "edge". However, it's in a handy location about 15 minutes walk from Snettisham Beach, and it's a short drive to Wells Next the Sea and Holkham. Unfortunately, seeing as it's August Bank Holiday, these places are ridiculously busy and we can't park anywhere, but we do find an oasis of calm at Brancaster Staithe, which somehow - almost implausibly - manages to avoid being overrun whilst at the same time being very picturesque. With some relief, we bail out of our camping booking a day early as Isobel has to go home anyway to get enough signal to be able to work, so Nosher and the boys pack up the van a few hours later and stop off on the way home at Lynford Stag near Mundford for a van picnic and a walk. imgp6205 Harry and Isobel pootle about on the lake imgp6208 Isobel and Harry look out to sea at Snettisham imgp6209 Wooden houses on the beach imgp6211 Toppers and other dinghies are out in a stiff breeze imgp6215 Snettisham beach on a windy day imgp6216 Roaming around on a windy beach imgp6219 We head off back down the track to Beach Road imgp6221 The Snettisham Beach and Chip Shop imgp6222 One of the campsite's static vans (not really) imgp6223 Harry by the campsite "shop" imgp6225 We hang out by the van at Diglea campsite imgp6231 It biblically lashes it down for a while imgp6233 Reaching out for the camera imgp6234 Fred sits around in the awning imgp6238 We visit the pudding van imgp6239 The slightly-scary campsite clubhouse imgp6241 There's a nice MG Roadster at Brancaster Staithe imgp6243 The tide is well out at Brancaster Staithe imgp6244 Harry's got some cool shades on imgp6246 The gang are at the Crab Hut for some cockles imgp6249 Harry looks at his tub of cockles imgp6250 A squadron of Topper dinghies imgp6252 Derelict fishing boats imgp6255 A collection of well-used buildings imgp6256 Another derelict fishing boat or tender imgp6258 Harry, Isobel and Fred imgp6263 Looking across the marshes imgp6264 Fred takes a photo imgp6269 Someone does a painting of the marshes imgp6270 Fred looks around imgp6272 Semi-derelict sheds imgp6273 A boat's bow lurches out of the marshes imgp6279 Fred and Isobel walk along the path imgp6280 A boat with a broken back imgp6286 Big skies over the marshes of Brancaster imgp6293 Harry's taking photos on his new phone imgp6297 Whitewashed windows imgp6301 Three black labradors mill around imgp6303 A 1950s Chevrolet pickup imgp6306 A front view of the MG Roadster imgp6309 A seagull perches on an old wooden post imgp6310 The boys on the beach at Holme next the Sea imgp6319 Isobel has a paddle in the sea imgp6322 Fred waves imgp6330 Fred looks at baked goods in Lidl, near Heacham imgp6331 We roam Lidl looking for randomness imgp6339 Isobel's on the phone imgp6341 We try out the next door campsite's bar imgp6345 Harry's playing pool imgp6352 Isobel and Fred are playing Spit imgp6353 The 1980s time-capsule that is Beach Park's lounge imgp6354 Harry and Fred in the function room imgp6356 Outside Beach Park bar and café imgp6357 Table footie in Diglea's chaotic clubhouse imgp6360 The Device Boys are at it again imgp6362 We stop off for a van picnic at Lynford Stag imgp6364 Harry's still in his pyjamas imgp6368 The boys climbs around on the rocks imgp6372 We head of for a walk in the forest imgp6379 Harry wanders the path imgp6382 We turn left by a clearing in the forest imgp6385 The boys find a nice tree imgp6389 Fred finds another upside-down iridescent beetle imgp6395 We walk back to the van
