title The Hippodrome Christmas Spectacular, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk - 29th December 2022 intro We're in Great Yarmouth to see the Christmas Spectacular at the Hippodrome - the grand 1903 Edwardian theatre behind the amusement arcades along the seafront. Isobel also books us in to a flat for the night in order to make it more of a trip, and to avoid having to drive back. The flat is a bit more interesting than usual as it's in the old Lloyds Bank main branch near the river, an area which clearly used to be the rich financial centre of Yarmouth, on account of the many formerly-grand buildings nearby. After a poke around the local area, we head off to the gig, which turns out to be most impressive and which even makes use of the swimming pool under the circus floor - a conversion which seems to happen by magic. The next day we have a quick look at the nearby Mediaeval wall - apparently the second-most complete example in the whole of the UK. imgc0064 Harry, Isobel and Fred wait to cross the road imgp9922 The boys take up their default positions imgp9925 A fixer-upper house behind the apartment imgp9926 The impressive Fastolff House on Regent Street imgp9927 Snuggling zebra and piles of rubbish imgp9928 Isobel and Harry explore one of the famous Rows imgp9930 A Polski Sklep actually has a product called Crap imgp9933 Part of the impressive George V Post Office imgp9935 Graffiti Lou Reeds seem to be around everywhere imgp9938 Isobel and Harry in front of the Post Office imgp9942 Another great Edwardian building on Hall Quay imgp9944 The imposing, but derelict, Star Hotel imgp9948 Our apartment for the night, in Lloyds Bank imgp9949 The kitchen/dining room/lounge and bedroom 3 imgp9950 The Prince Regent on the top of Regent Road imgp9952 An optimistic poster on a windy beach imgp9953 A curious oilrig support vessel sits offshore imgp9954 The Funland family diner is boarded up for winter imgp9961 Fred does a cube in the Lion and Herring imgp9963 We eat fish and chips on Trafalgar Road imgp9966 Fred and Isobel in the chipper imgp9969 The arts-and-crafts Municipal School of Art, 1912 imgp9970 A very derelict terraced house imgp9985 The sky is filled with a starling murmuration imgp0002 More starling murmurations imgp0005 We return to the apartment for an hour imgc0067 The town council offices are nicely lit up imgc0069 Leisureland amusements on Marine Parade imgc0071 We walk the strip on Marine Parade imgc0077 The Hippodrome has its original Edwardian urinals imgc0078 Signs on the bog wall imgc0087 The Christmas Spectacular kicks off imgc0089 Acrobats from Spain do their thing imgc0099 There's some super-fast juggling imgc0115 The rope acrobats finsh their routine imgc0119 Miami Flow, from Cuba imgc0122 Isobel and Harry up in the circle imgc0126 World-record UK cyclist Andrei Burton imgc0131 Andrei Burton does a standing jump on his bike imgc0144 Miami Flow are back in action imgc0161 The stage turns into an actual swimming pool imgc0165 Synchronised swimming in the arean imgc0174 Some impressive precision acrobatics imgc0185 The show reaches an impressive finale imgc0193 Isobel and Fred get drinks and snacks imgc0194 Che Guevara on a shop imgp0006 An interesting building is hidden behind the flat imgp0010 Harry does a bit more tablet imgp0013 A view out of the apartment window imgp0014 Fred on the stairs in the Lloyds Bank building imgp0015 The back alley down the side of the bank imgp0017 Part of the mediaeval wall imgp0018 A bit of the wall references King John imgp0019 The J Tower Curing Works from 1880 imgp0021 More of the extensive mediaeval wall imgp0028 Yarmouth scary pub: The Recruit imgp0031 The boys are in the sand dunes imgp0032 A derelict pub on South Beach Parade imgp0034 The Britannia Monument and Monument Road imgp0035 More Yarmouth dereliction imgp0037 Isobel and Harry look out to sea imgp0038 South Beach Parade in the rain imgp0044 The resurrected Lacons Brewery on Main Cross Road imgp0048 There's some quality parking in Morrisons imgp0049 Isobel looks for cheesecake imgp0051 Harry and Isobel in Morrisons
