title Greencastle, Doagh and Malin Head, County Donegal, Ireland - 19th April 2022 intro We move on from Manorhamilton in Leitrim up to Greencastle, right up at the top of Ireland in the county of Donegal, and about three hours or so's drive. We're staying in a really cool apartment above Kealy's Seafood Bar, which tragically is only open on the first night we're there, although we are booked in so get to make the most of it. However, there are enough alternative food locations via the ferry to Magilligan's Point in Northern Ireland and a take-away from Apache Pizza in nearby Moville, plus we also get a night out in the almost-next-door Ferrypoint Bar. The area itself is gorgeous, with a mixture of rugged coastline, the Wild Atlantic Way, and lovely secluded sandy bays. Whilst in the area, we visit Malin Head - home of the shipping forecast region, and once Eire Station 80, where there's a Napoleonic tower which was once home to some of Marconi's transatlantic radio towers. Then we head over on the ferry to Magilligan's Point to the Point Bar and Restaurant for more food, and finally we do an interesting trip around the Doagh Famine Village museum, presented by a dude who actually lived in one of the houses as recently as 1984. imgp3110 Fred stretches out having claimed a bedroom imgp3112 A view over Lough Foyle imgp3113 Harry on the edge of the path imgp3115 The boys explore the rocks imgp3117 Pink flowers in the rocks imgp3119 The boys by the edge of the lough imgp3122 Isobel points out to sea imgp3126 There's a little fairy house by the path imgp3129 Harry flings some seaweed around imgp3132 Lough Foyle imgp3134 Derelict trailers say no to Joe McHugh imgp0025 Harry plays with Fred's ring-ball thing imgp0027 A corner of Kealy's Seafood Bar imgp0029 The bar at Kealy's in Greencastle imgp0032 Some of Fred's Lego imgp3140 Isobel crochets in the window imgp3155 Fred scopes out the chocolates in the shop imgp3156 The hire car outside Kealy's imgp3158 The staircase is a giant piano keyboard imgp3161 The shop next door imgp3163 The boys on the cliff at Malin Head imgp3166 We head off up to the tower imgp3167 Concrete WWII buildings imgp3168 Fred and Harry in a derelict building imgp3171 Isobel roams around at Malin Head imgp3173 A sign for Station 80, Eire imgp3174 Harry walks around on the rocks imgp3179 Harry points up to the sky imgp3181 Cottages in the wilderness imgp3182 A Viking face looks out of the tower imgp3184 Isobel gets a coffee from the van imgp3189 Harry runs around imgp3191 Isobel looks out to sea imgp3193 A dog bowl with a scary cat photo imgp3194 Isobel and Fred under the Malin Head sign imgp3195 A traditional cottage near Malin Head imgp3196 The boys scope out the Curiosity Stop imgp3201 A sheep looks out imgp3203 Fred finds a dead fish imgp3207 Isobel on the beach imgp3210 Interesting rocks and green algae imgp3214 More cool rocks imgp3222 An old shed in Malin imgp3223 McClean's bar in Malin imgp3226 The gang cross the road imgp3227 Isobel and Fred in the café next to the apartment imgp3230 Harry has a shout imgp3231 The fishing marina at Greencastle imgp3232 The boys watch some normal telly for a change imgp3233 Fred does skimmers imgp3234 We walk on to the Foyle Ferry imgp3239 The ferry lands at Magilligan's Point imgp3241 We explore the beach imgp3247 Harry's found a bit of tree imgp3249 We spot our apartment, on the left imgp3250 Harry checks if the Martello tower is open imgp3253 The firing range control tower imgp3254 The Martello Twoer imgp3256 Isobel scopes the menu in the Point Bar imgp3258 Harry and Fred play Top Trumps imgp3262 Fred has a toot on Flute B imgp3266 Colourful fishing boats in the harbour imgp3268 Sunset over Greencastle harbour imgp3269 A derelict café at Shroove imgp3271 Harry and Fred on a beach at Shroove imgp3276 The black-and-white lighthouse at Shroove imgp3281 Inside the derelict café imgp3287 Fred plays flute in the dunes imgp3289 A derelict house on the way back to Greencastle imgp3291 An old bar is demolished in Moville imgp3292 We have a bit of lunch in La Mi café imgp3294 Another derelict pub for sale imgp3295 An empty wide beach at Doagh imgp3297 Traditional thatched cottages at the Famine museum imgp3298 The dude tells us about traditional life imgp3300 How water was collected back in the day imgp3307 There's an interesting talk about death imgp3310 A kitchen bed imgp3312 The museum has an Orange Hall recreation imgp3313 More traditional houses at Doagh imgp3314 Isobel checks out the gift shop imgp3315 An old petrol pump imgp3320 A hand sculpture near the beach imgp3324 The boys are dots on the beach imgp3333 Fred roams around imgp3338 There's a wedding party on the beach imgp3342 Photos of the groom's party occur imgp3348 Harry stands next to the stretch limo imgp3350 Canny the Hermit's House in Doagh imgp3351 A huge harvester gets stuck in Moville imgp3363 The apartment's lounge has an original fireplace imgp3365 A boat is being restored imgp0033 Isobel at the bar in the Ferrypoint pub imgp0034 There's a good crowd in the Ferrypoint imgp0035 There's a darts match going on imgp3373 The boys are buying sweets again in the shop imgp3375 Isobel gets some supplies in Mclaughlin's
