title The Tiles of Ickworth House, Horringer, Suffolk - 30th November 2019 intro We're off to Ickworth House, near Horringer in Suffolk, for another walk around. This time, the rotunda is completely covered in scaffolding - something which can be annoying if it's the first time you've been somewhere, but which in this case is quite interesting simply because the scale of the scaffolding job itself is truly stunning. Also, the National Trust is flogging off some of the 40 tons of old slate tiles from the roof, which are being replaced, for a modest sum, so we pick up a couple to do some painting on or something. We also do the "life below stairs" tour, which we'd actually done before, but it's true what the guide said: each one of them has a different take on it, so it's still interesting to do. imgc5376 Isobel's mushrooms are doing well imgc5382 Prět à Pousser mushrooms in a box imgp7877 Boris - Stripey Cat - stares out of the back door imgp7879 A tree and a carpet of leaves imgp7882 Nice autumn leaves on the Albana walk imgp7888 Harry's got a big stick imgp7893 Harry and Fred look at dens imgp7899 Harry looks up at a den imgp7904 Harry and Isobel wander off imgp7908 We roam the woods imgp7912 A view of the Suffolk countryside imgp7915 Isobel, Fred and Harry tread a misty path imgp7919 Harry and Fred take a break imgp7923 The boys climb a tree imgp7924 Bright green hedges imgp7926 Fred points to a stump that looks like a fish head imgp7930 Ribbony fungi imgp7932 Some more fungi, which look like sea-shells imgp7935 A twisty tree stump imgp7936 A carpet of autumn, picked out by the low sun imgp7940 We find some huge mushrooms off the path imgp7943 Our first close-up of the truly epic scaffolding imgp7947 The boys look at books in the NT shop imgp7949 Harry and Isobel in the NT shop imgp7955 We stop for a hot drink and snacks in the Orangery imgp7956 Harry looks up imgp7958 Outside, there's a cute baby in a plant pot imgp7959 Harry peers out of the window imgp7964 In the cellars of Ickworth imgp7967 Some of Ickworth's epic plumbing imgp7969 Fred peers into an underground water tank imgp7971 Christmas socks imgp7977 Harry wants a go of Santa's chair imgp7978 Fred nabs the prime seat yet again imgp7980 The coat's a bit oversized, but the hat fits imgp7981 A kitchen range is explained imgp7986 Harry pokes an old recipe book imgp7988 The boys are back at the knives and stabbing weapons imgp7990 Down the bricked corridors of "below stairs" imgp7991 The boys leg it up the stairs imgp7992 Fred looks at calendars back in the NT shop imgp7993 Some of the old and new roof tiles imgp7997 Outside there are loads more tiles in boxes imgp8004 A tree is lit up in purple imgp8006 Sheep graze in an autumn scene imgp8010 A brave soul reads a book outside imgp8011 A purple urn in the stumpary imgp8014 Isobel, Harry and Fred in the illuminated stumpery imgp8016 More purple trees imgp8017 Isobel roams around in the lights imgp8021 A tree stump is lit up in red imgp8023 The rotunda is quite different with its covering imgp8024 Twinkly lights on the way to a garden shelter imgp8029 There are thousands of scaffolding poles involved imgp8030 The Ickworth orangery imgp8031 We walk back past the orangery
