title Times Square, USS Intrepid and the High Line, Manhattan, New York - 25th October 2018 intro Day Four in New Jersey/New York and we cram in an action-packed day which starts with a train ride to Penn Station, followed by a walk down 7th Avenue to Times Square, then a trudge across town to the Hudson River for a look around USS Intrepid, the aircraft carrier which amongst many exhibits houses G-BOAD - the BA Concorde which to this day holds the transatlantic crossing world record, with a time of 2 hours and 52 minutes. After that, we do the High Line - a converted former elevated railway that Isobel has been keen on doing since her previous stay in the Meatpacking District the year before. This ends up as quite a long walk, after which the boys are fairly wrecked, and it's all we can do to haul them back on the subway to Penn Station and then the train back to Millburn. The following day, we spend a few hours in Short Hills Mall before lunch at the Summit Diner, after which we head off home via Newark airport. imgp6106 A derelict Ramada coach in a Newark scrap yard imgp6111 The New Jersey Turnpike, and a derelict bridge imgp6115 Crosswalk near 7th Avenue imgp6116 7th Avenue, on the way to Times Square imgp6118 Times Square imgp6119 The signs are reflected in the cars below imgp6121 We head off to explore imgp6126 An FDNY van drives by at speed imgp6130 We look around Times Square 44965552_10156831684831098_7517543956121387008_o_01 Nosher and the boys in Times Square imgp6136 There's some strange photo shoot going on imgp6138 The Grinch looms over Times Square imgp6142 It's busy in Times Square imgp6144 Streams of traffic and crowds on Broadway imgp6145 A cool number plate outside a piano shop imgp6146 The pumpkin theme is certainly a Thing imgp6147 We get some waffles from a van on 12th Avenue imgp6149 The Intrepid on the Hudson imgp6153 A Lockheed A-12 - the prototype SR-71 "Blackbird" imgp6154 The boys in front of a Lockheed A-12 imgp6163 A Russian MiG imgp6166 The Enterprise Space Shuttle imgp6167 The prototype Enterprise, as flown from a 747 imgp6169 Inside a Russian Soyuz capsule imgp6171 A US Marines Harrier jump jet imgp6173 The Captain's day room imgp6176 Fred takes the wheel of the Intrepid imgp6178 Harry has a go, complete with helmet imgp6182 Fred tries out the ship's compass imgp6186 The bridge of the USS Intrepid imgp6187 A collection of aircraft on the deck imgp6188 Even massive aircraft carriers need wing mirrors imgp6192 The last BA Concorde to fly to JFK imgp6195 Concorde - it's a crime this isn't still flying imgp6202 Fred on a sculpture imgp6203 The gorgeous Concorde G-BOAD imgp6205 Fred hangs around below decks on the Intrepid imgp6207 We head down into the USS Growler imgp6211 Looking up the conning tower imgp6212 A former crewman explains the periscopes to the boys imgp6215 Isobel in the dormitory imgp6216 Isobel heads off through the sub imgp6226 Isobel looks like she's got a proper grump on imgp6227 The boys' pizza arrives imgp6229 It's a quiet day in the diner imgp6230 Fred in the diner imgp6231 Brightly-coloured cast-iron basement steps imgp6232 Diner stools imgp6233 Isobel rounds up the boys imgp6235 A traffic cop does their thing imgp6236 The funky Michael J.
