title Grandmother's Wake, Winkton, Christchurch, Dorset - 18th September 2017 intro Nosher's grandmother shuffles off this mortal coil at the decent age of nearly 93. There's something of a mini family reunion for the event, held in Bournemouth, with a gathering afterwards at The Lamb in Winkton, up the road from the care home where she spent her last couple of years and near her previous home of Burton. This prompts some "visits of reflection", including going to New Milton to buy a belt from the shop that time forgot - Bradbeer's - and seeing what else is unchanged from the 1980s, followed by a stop off at Christchurch Quay, site of many a childhood holiday visit with the grandparents. There's also a photo of a B-17 which must have been flown by Nosher's Grandad - the identifiable plane in the background is B-17G "BU-U", which was assigned to the 214 Squadron (Federated Malay States). imgc8179 A Herbie look-alike at Tesco in Bury St Edmunds imgc8180 The old bypassed A11, just up from Fourwentways imgc8181 The southbound Fleet Services is demolished imgc8185 The road towards Holmesley in the New Forest imgc8186 Martin Hill Lane in Burton imgc8188 Barney and Binkie on the decking imgc8190 Michelle throws a tennis ball for the dogs imgc8192 Binkie looks down from the staircase imgc8193 New Milton Lighting Centre, unchanged since the 80s imgc8195 Station Road in New Milton imgc8197 The end of Bradbeers imgc8198 The legendary Bradbeers imgc8199 The Post Office looks like a model railway building imgc8200 Charles Nobel hasn't changed much imgc8201 Lloyds Bank and the top end of Station Road imgc8202 New Milton railway station is almost unchanged imgc8203 The ancient BR logo on the railway sign imgc8204 Galleon Taxis' hut in the station car park imgc8205 The platform shelters at New Milton imgc8206 The trains are newer, but the station is the same imgc8207 Looking down the tracks towards Bournemouth imgc8209 Platform 1 imgc8211 The train from Waterloo arrives on Platform 2 imgc8212 The original Victorian footbridge imgc8213 Barton cliff top, looking to Bournemouth imgc8214 The Beachcomber Café and Barton flats imgc8215 An empty car park on the cliff top imgc8216 Nosher's motor on the clifftop at Barton on Sea imgc8218 The Isle of Wight and the Needles imgc8219 It's convertible day down at Tesco in New Milton imgp7897 Christchurch Priory imgp7898 Renovation occurs on an old building near the priory imgp7899 Another view of Christchurch Priory imgp7900 Someone reads the newspaper down by the quay imgp7902 The bandstand in Christchurch Park imgp7903 Swans on the River Stour imgp7905 The River Stour, looking towards Tuckton imgp7906 The swans are out for a bit of preening imgp7907 A line of motor boats on the river imgp7908 Swans on the river imgp7909 A melee of swans imgp7910 An old man roams around with a carrier bag imgp7912 The Old Mill tea rooms imgp7913 Christchurch sailing club imgp7914 The park and the bandstand imgp7915 In the gardens near the priory imgc8220 Judith and the Wye Massive imgc8221 Mother looks down imgc8223 Judith talks to the Ross on Wye branch of the family imgc8225 Grandmother's collection of photos and programmes imgc8226 Conversation at the wake imgc8227 Judith - then and now imgc8228 Grandmother, Nosher and sis, in around 1970 or 71 imgc8230 Josephine, Debbie, Cathy and Mandy imgc8232 A load of sandwiches imgc8233 Uncle Neil and Martina imgc8234 The Lamb's function room imgc8235 Mother, left, talks imgc8236 More family chat imgc8237 Grandad's B-17: BU-E with BU-U in the background imgc8238 Cousin Alex and Uncle Bruno from Geneva imgc8240 Bruno looks at photographs imgc8241 A photo with Alex and Elisa as babies imgc8242 The Lamb Inn at Winkton
