title A Steamy 1940s Day Out, Holt and Sheringham, Norfolk - 20th September 2015 intro After a Saturday night at a 1940s-stlye dance, it seems appropriate to follow up with a day up at Holt and Sheringham, where the increasingly-popular 1940s-themed steam weekend is occuring. There's a bit of a hold-up as the first train of the day has crashed in to the buffers at Holt, so the first train that actually gets going is more than a little packed. Later, at Sheringham, we happen upon Clive's military truck which is just about to head off for a spin around town with the Mayor. imgp1046 A Routemast bus trundles in to the park and ride imgp1048 The top deck of a Routemaster bus imgp1049 The gang on the bus's top deck imgp1054 The byus drops us off at Holt imgp1055 A nice Spitfire on a Bentley imgp1056 Crowds down at the station imgp1057 A rake of Mark 1 coaches imgp1058 Harry stomps around with Grandad in tow imgp1059 A fake wedding couple imgp1060 The scene down at Holt station imgp1062 A small engine shunts coaches up the line imgp1064 Harry and Fred in a waiting room imgp1065 Isobel roams around on the BR Mark 1 coach imgp1068 Holt station atmosphere imgp1071 A steam roller imgp1072 It's all too much for this dude imgp1074 Peering from the train as it passes Kelling Heath imgp1075 The station master at Weybourne imgp1079 A wrecked Class 25 loco imgp1085 Sheringham Station is packed imgp1086 Isobel in the platform crowds imgp1089 Suzanne lifts Harry up imgp1092 Fred on Clive's truck imgp1095 Fred, Suzanne and Harry imgp1100 The view from the top of the truck imgp1107 The Mayor of Sheringham jumps up and says hello imgp1110 It's a bit of a melée as the Routemaster shows up imgp1117 The crowds wave - it's like being royalty imgp1120 The truck heads into Sheringham imgp1122 Sheringham town centre is heaving imgp1126 A 1940s policeman roams around imgp1128 A machine gun imgp1137 The truck gets a police escort imgp1138 Blyth and Wright with a crashed Messerschmitt imgp1140 The kids wave to the crowds imgp1144 The scene at the top of the High Street imgp1148 Sheringham town centre imgp1152 The mini tour of Sheringham ends up at the Lobster imgp1153 The mayor jumps off imgp1156 We drop the Mayor off outside the Lobster imgp1157 Some Royal Marine-types squeeze through the crowds imgp1160 Royal Marines with a flag imgp1162 The Mayor of Sheringham gives another wave imgp1165 Grandad hangs out with the army guys imgp1167 Harry looks around imgp1169 The view from the railway bridge imgp1170 Clive grins imgp1176 Harry gets lifted down imgp1178 Clive gets ready to head off again imgp1181 A vintage Eastern Counties bus imgp1183 A "sympathetically re-enacted" site of bomb damage imgp1187 A vintage Rolls-Royce imgp1198 A group of 1940s housewives in the parade imgp1201 An RAF chap with a basket full of RAF bears imgp1209 A nice old Rolls Royce heads up through town imgp1213 76084 Standard 4 sits at Sheringham imgp1216 Fred roams the platform imgp1217 76084 with its rake of old BR Mark 1 carriages imgp1223 Some dude peers out of a window imgp1227 Fred with his "gas mask" box imgp1228 The train waits at the platforn imgp1233 The wedding couple imgp1234 An old 1960s Class 31 diesel, D5631 imgp1235 D5631 rumbles by imgp1240 Some jitterbuggers on Platform 1 at Sheringham imgp1244 A nice old van packed out with memorabilia imgp1247 The train at Sheringham imgp1248 Isobel and Fred in the carriage imgp1250 Nosher looks out of the train window imgp1253 Fred and Nosher, in an RAF No. 1 Dress Jacket imgp1256 Isobel and Fred imgp1259 Harry hangs out with the G-Unit imgp1260 A Mark 1 corridor imgp1263 Harry messes around with the door of our "cubicle" imgp1264 Fred with Nosher's RAF cap on imgp1266 Isobel shows something on her phone imgp1268 The view through our Mark 1 carriage window imgp1276 Isobel pokes her head out of the window imgp1278 Harry and Fred watch the world go by imgp1287 Two rakes of Maroon coachs meet at Weybourne imgp1292 The morning's train crash is still stuck imgp1293 Grandad grabs a downstairs spot on the bus imgp1295 Harry does his own thing
