title SwiftKey's Arcade Cabinet, and the Streets of Southwark, London - 5th December 2013 intro SwiftKey is having one of its two-day "innovation" sessions, where alternative projects can be pursued. This time, Nosher pitches in to help construct an arcade cabinet, complete with vintage arcade games like Missile Command, Space Invaders, Street Fighter and so on. This involves chopping up a lot of MDF down in the bike shed at the bottom of the building on Southwark Bridge Road, whilst in the office Craig looks after buttons and joysticks, and Joe and Chris look after preparing the "Mame" emulation on a PC. On the way home on Thursday, the train is cancelled just as it's about to leave and it's announced that the line is closed north of Colchester, as well as north of Diss and near Wivenhoe, so after a while hanging around waiting for nothing to happen (until the transport rozzers come along to disperse the crowd) it's time to catch a train to Cambridge and a packed train from there to Norwich from where Isobel picks up Nosher and the bike, finally getting home six hours after leaving the office. imgc1217 The first measurements take place imgc1221 Emlyn measures up imgc1223 Chris thinks about stuff imgc1226 Chris and Joe look at code imgc1227 The fire door to the back yard imgc1228 MDF is laid out for cutting in the bike shed imgc1230 A sheet of MDF near Nosher's bike imgc1231 Safety first imgc1232 Emlyn wanders off into the yard imgc1233 The Shard from Flatiron Yard imgc1234 The first cut (is the deepest) imgc1236 Much activity in the common room imgc1238 Craig checks out the buttons and joystick imgc1239 Craig with a load of wiring imgc1240 Emlyn does some sanding imgc1246 A pile of junk in Flatiron Yard imgc1247 The MDF looks like a cabinet part now imgc1249 Emlyn and Jaley imgc1252 The offcut that remains looks like a giant knob imgc1254 The Shard, lit up in the dusk imgc1255 Craig and a load of spaghetti imgc1257 Coffey and Jaley start to assemble the cabinet imgc1260 A night view of the City from Southwark Bridge imgc1262 A load of Santas run across Southwark Bridge imgc1263 Queen Victoria Street imgc1265 The Royal Exchange on Threadneedle Street imgc1268 Looking up Threadneedle Street towards the Gherkin imgc1270 The purple bottom of Tower 42 imgc1273 An ancient brake wagon at Shenfield imgc1274 Trackside graffiti imgc1275 One of the ancient overhead gantries at Shenfield imgc1276 The M25 as seen from the train imgc1278 Class 315 "Tin can" commuter trains imgc1279 More commuter trains imgc1280 The staff building at Gidea Park imgc1289 Ilford Station imgc1299 Trees grow out of the wall at Forest Gate imgc1301 More trackside graffiti imgc1303 Silver tags on a brick wall imgc1308 A dirty Class 57 - 57009 - makes a lot of smoke imgc1309 The tail end, 57004, smokes past imgc1312 Overspill from the Crossrail dig imgc1315 F64 graffiti imgc1318 The scrapyard on Portland Place imgc1319 Derelict buildings near the Mansion Hive imgc1326 A mystery door imgc1328 Runch graffiti imgc1329 Spaghetti rails at Liverpool Street imgc1330 Joe inspects the nearly-finished cabinet imgc1331 Morning activity in the kitchen area imgc1332 Craig does some measuring imgc1333 The cabinet imgc1334 Joe works on a monitor imgc1335 Autumn leaves on Southwark Bridge Road imgc1336 The Shard, from Southwark Street imgc1337 Under the railway bridge by Redcross Way imgc1340 Railway bridge on O'Meara Street imgc1341 An open door reveals some impressive oak beams imgc1342 A little graffiti detail on a gate imgc1343 A Scary Mary outside a church imgc1344 A pile of leaves around pink café furniture imgc1345 Union Street and the Shard imgc1346 Coffey and Craig sort the buttons out imgc1347 The Mint and Gospel Lighthouse Mission imgc1349 Faded Underground sign on Redcross Way imgc1350 The Smarties lights on Southwark Street imgc1351 Nathan Bowen art on building hoardings imgc1352 A close-up of the "Smarties" imgc1353 Underneath the arch on Redcross Way imgc1354 Backstreet railway arches imgc1355 Newspapers are laid out for painting imgc1358 Coffey and Craig start priming the cabinet imgc1360 Paint is applied imgc1362 Southwark Bridge Road near the office imgc1363 Southwark Street on another trip to the shop imgc1364 Seedy building-site entrance, with Runch graffiti imgc1365 Hot Munchies street café on Southwark Street imgc1366 Street art: a nicely modified no-entry sign imgc1368 A black coat is applied to the cabinet imgc1370 The office is a hive of activity imgc1373 Joe and Craig install buttons imgc1374 There's chaos at Liverpool Street imgc1375 All the lines are closed, as thousands mill around imgc1376 The trains at Liverpool Street are going nowhere imgc1377 Cambridge station has a whole new platform imgc1378 About 200 people cram Cambridge's platform 6 imgc1379 Queues on the platform at Cambridge imgc1380 The packed train to Norwich
