title A "Sally B" B-17 Flypast, Thorpe Abbots, Norfolk - 27th May 2013 intro As part of the 70th Anniversary of the USAAF 8th Air Force, the B-17 "Sally B", escorted by fighter planes of Eagle Squadron, does a tour of various airfields, departing Duxford, flying over Madingley near Cambridge and then visiting Thorpe Abbots before continuing to Leiston on the Suffolk Coast followed by a return to Duxford. Nosher, Isobel, the boys and Grandad all turf up with a picnic to watch the flypast and - after the crowds disperse - to look around the control tower museum and play on a Willys jeep. imgp1464 The Thorpe Abbots control tower, restored in 1977 imgp1465 People gather on top of the tower imgp1467 A Willy's Jeep imgp1469 A 1940s American pick-up truck imgp1471 The Stars and Stripes imgp1472 Fred and Grandad imgp1473 The scene at Thorpe Abbots imgp1474 More funky 50s pickups imgp1476 More people mingle around on the tower imgp1477 A picnic unfolds imgp1478 "Old Glory" flaps around in the strong breeze imgp1490 Eagle Squadron flies over first imgp1496 Thunderbolt, Mustang, Hurricane and Spitfire imgp1504 Sally B does a low flypast imgp1507 The B-17 is right overhead imgp1511 Sally B heads off imgp1512 The crowds mill around imgp1513 We have a look up in the Control Tower museum imgp1515 Up in the re-built tower imgp1516 The view from the control tower imgp1518 The "conservatory" imgp1521 A model of a B-17 imgp1524 Fred and Harry on a Jeep - owned by another Fred imgp1527 Fred and Harry on the Jeep imgp1528 Fred legs it imgp1532 Harry's desperate for another go on the jeep imgp1535 Harry has another sit in the Jeep imgp1536 Fred comes back imgp1539 Isobel scoops Harry up imgp1542 Part of the only remaining taxiway on the airfield imgp1543 The only remaining bit of runway imgp1544 A pile of concrete and twisted metal imgp1545 In Thorpe Abbots, we spot an albino peacock
