title Nairobi and the Road to Maasai Mara, Kenya, Africa - 1st November 2010 intro It's the first couple of days of Nosher and Isobel's delayed honeymoon in Kenya. After the almost-nine-hour flight to Nairobi, we hang out for a bit and explore the immediate vicinity of the "Kenya Comfort Hotel". The next day, it's straight on to the highway out of town to head towards the Maasai Mara, via Limuru Road and Red Hill Road, before turning off the B3 at Mai Mahui and heading along the Nyambururu-Kamirithu Highway to the heaving town of Narok. dscf2260 On Monrovia Street in Nairobi dscf2262 The City Market, Off Loita Road, Nairobi dscf2263 Nairobi market life dscf2264 A downtown market dscf2265 People mill around a Nairobi market dscf2266 A back alley behind the market imgp6692 Will and Tony drive us around Nairobi imgp6696 Advertising hoardings imgp6699 Purple blossom is everywhere imgp6702 More purple blossom imgp6703 The view from the Kenya Comfort Hotel window imgp6704 Buildings in various stages of disarray imgp6705 Reflections in a hotel window imgp6706 Isobel looks out over the city imgp6707 Old and new buildings imgp6709 The back of a rooftop sign imgp6710 More random buildings imgp6711 More haphazzard scaffolding imgp6714 Isobel on the hotel roof imgp6717 The rooftop sun deck imgp6719 Piles of rubble down below imgp6720 Isobel in our hotel room imgp6727 Street life imgp6734 Dinner with Tusker beer imgp6738 The "Carnivore" restaurant outside Nairobi imgp6741 Pots of condiments imgp6744 The staff get word that it's Isobel's birthday imgp6746 We get a rendition of "Jambo Bwana" from the staff imgp6751 The Carnivor's barbeque pit imgp6752 The front of Carnivore restaurant imgp6757 The sign for our hotel imgp6758 Pushing sack barrows on the street imgp6759 The street outside the Kenya Comfort Hotel imgp6760 Titters Pub and Butchery - interesting combo imgp6764 A public toilet, or Choo imgp6765 Pushing a sack barrow around imgp6767 Street scene imgp6771 Strange little tricycles imgp6774 A local market imgp6775 The streets of Nairobi imgp6778 Gravestones, or "the answer to problem stains" imgp6779 Some of the roads are hard going imgp6781 Some dude picks a newspaper up imgp6783 A woman hauls along a load imgp6787 Amazing wooden carvings imgp6790 Woodworkers do their thing imgp6792 Roadside stalls on Limuru Road imgp6795 An interesting sort of car wash imgp6796 The Rilele Africa art studio in Limuru Road imgp6800 An armchair on the street imgp6801 A donkey and cart on Limuru Road imgp6803 The Wa-Njeri General Shop, Ruaka imgp6805 Wanjoro Animal Feeds imgp6815 The Kabuku Full Gospel Church, Red Hill Road imgp6819 A view over the Rift Valley imgp6822 A zebra-striped hut looks out over the Rift Valley imgp6824 The White Rhino Curio shop on the top of a cliff imgp6826 Isobel roams around the van imgp6832 Will and Isobel talk about stuff imgp6833 A small café imgp6834 A woman by the café door imgp6839 Donkeys haul a cart with some barrels on imgp6841 Some sort of satellite ground station imgp6844 Inside the safari van imgp6848 A Maasai herds cows and goats imgp6849 A watering hole imgp6852 Random old petrol pumps in the middle of nowhere imgp6853 Donkey herding on the plains imgp6854 Maasai cattle imgp6855 Cow herding imgp6857 We follow a bus for a few miles imgp6858 Wood for charcoal is sold by the roadside imgp6859 In the town of Narok, another ancient petrol pump imgp6860 An old dude walks around imgp6862 Some dudes make furniture by the roadside imgp6863 A wheelbarrow full of bananas imgp6864 Adverts for Biddy's Margarine imgp6865 Dudes on a motorbike imgp6866 Naibor Drycleaners imgp6867 On the streets imgp6869 A load of chairs outside imgp6870 Everything you'd want in a hotel imgp6872 The heaving township of Narok imgp6873 A load of motorbikes imgp6874 Down by the mosque and the Suzy Building imgp6875 Striding around Narok imgp6876 Outisde Narok, there's a welder and puncture repair specialist
