title From East End to East Coast: Brick Lane and Walberswick, London and Suffolk - 9th February 2007 intro Isobel finds a retro 70s-esque armchair in London and so we head down to near Bethnal Green to pick it up, stick it in the back of the Mk 2 Astra and have a curry on Brick Lane to boot. The next day, the weather turns from gloomy rain to sun, so we head over to Walberswick, near Southwold on the Suffolk Coast, to have a walk on the beach. This requires driving right through chicken flu "ground zero" exclusion zones around Holton, and gives a chance to recount to Isobel the story of Black Shuck, the Devil Dog who roams the byways of Suffolk, as we stop off for a quick look around Blythburgh Church. imgp1502 Vintage signs on a wall on Hope Street imgp1504 Street food off Brick Lane imgp1505 A bloke with a pair of tongs imgp1506 Tenfoot graffiti, featuring a couple of pink breasts imgp1510 Installation art imgp1511 More graffiti, wheelie bins and a pile of junk imgp1513 A crushed car imgp1514 Isobel's on the phone imgp1515 A view of the Gherkin imgp1517 Gas-mask street art imgp1521 "Caution: infernal traffic" imgp1522 Wistful graffiti imgp1523 A deserted factory building imgp1525 A heavily-graffiti'd doorway imgp1526 Isobel, and reflections in glass doors imgp1527 More wall art imgp1528 The Heveningham sign is covered up by an Avian Influenza warning imgp1531 Blythburgh Church - the Cathedral of the Marshes imgp1533 Sunlight plays on the floor imgp1536 Black Shuck's scorch marks are visible on the door imgp1538 Light streams in through the plain-glass windows imgp1543 A hide-away priest's hole imgp1544 The spiral stairs to the priets's hole imgp1546 Blythburgh Church reaches for the sky imgp1549 At Walberswick: houses in stilts imgp1551 A house on stilts by the car park imgp1553 People in the dunes imgp1554 Southwold Lighthouse from the beach at Walberswick imgp1556 Gravelly beach imgp1558 Isobel walks along the shingle imgp1560 A silhouetted couple walk on the beach imgp1564 A small child lobs stones in to the sea imgp1566 Marram grass in the sand dunes imgp1568 A couple of stacked buckets sit unused on the sand imgp1570 Strangely-shaped pond imgp1577 A fisherman casts out imgp1580 Isobel watches the sun imgp1594 Broken fence imgp1597 A weathered tree stump imgp1604 The sun sets over the salt marsh imgp1608 The houses on stilts again imgp1613 The ruined part of Walberswick church imgp1618 Birds fly off over the church tower imgp1623 We get stuck behind a slow-moving heavy imgp1625 The slow-moving heavy's lights bounce in the dark near Hoxne
