title A Trip Around Macclesfield and Sandbach, Cheshire - 10th September 2005 intro The weekend had started on Sunday Morning with a trip to Hazel Grove, near Stockport, to pick up a vintage Commodore PET 4016 purchased off eBay. After Sunday afternoon's trip up to the Pennines, Nosher and The Old Chap head off into Macclesfield on the following Monday - Dad to do a few errands, me to take photos. There's a stop-off to the shop of dad's late chum Jim the Butcher to get some sausages, followed by a roam around some of the sights of Macclesfield. Ordinarily, as you drive down into town from the Buxton direction on a winter's day, you get a real sense of bleak mill town, although even then it's nothing like as black as it was in the 80s. However, today's sunny, so the effect isn't quite as grim. Finally, on the way home back to Suffolk, there's a visit to one-time home Sandbach to see what's changed, and to glimpse again the favourite old school - Sandbach Grammar. imgp2190 A Commodore PET in the old man's kitchen imgp2191 The Old Chap scratches his head in the kitchen imgp2192 The Old Man tries to finish the crossword imgp2193 The back garden imgp2194 Rob, Jim's colleague, who now runs the butcher's imgp2195 Rob and The Old Chap chat about stuff imgp2197 The old man in Cotterill and Hill, Macclesfield imgp2198 Sausages are weighed imgp2199 The Old Man at the counter imgp2200 Dad checks a list imgp2202 Rob chats to the old man imgp2203 The Cheshire Building Society imgp2204 An alleyway opposite HSBC imgp2205 The Old Chap heads off to the town hall imgp2206 Macclesfield Town Hall imgp2207 St. Michael's church, black from mill soot imgp2208 Church Street imgp2209 St. Michael's Church, Macclesfield imgp2210 The churchyard of St. Michael's imgp2212 The Castle Inn, one of The Old Chap's boozers imgp2213 Window cleaners in action imgp2215 The Old Man wanders past "Carpet House" imgp2216 The doorway of a small fabric emporium imgp2217 A kid spins a sign around imgp2218 The Macclesfield indoor market imgp2219 Some dude looks at a cold meats chiller imgp2220 The Old Man hangs his washing out imgp2221 A mill, from the top of Clowes Lane imgp2223 A mill near Clowes Lane imgp2226 Clowes Lane, Macclesfield imgp2228 The Saxon Crosses, Sandbach, Cheshire imgp2229 The red-brick building was a model shop in the 70s imgp2230 The Lower Chequer Pub, unchanged from the 70s, imgp2231 The Lower Chequer pub imgp2232 More Saxon Crosses imgp2233 Another view of the Saxon Crosses imgp2235 Market Square imgp2236 Sandbach Town Hall and Indoor Market imgp2237 Monument on the roundabout on the way to Wheelock imgp2238 Sandbach Grammar, dating from 1677 imgp2239 Nosher's old form room is top right imgp2243 The view from Crewe Road, like on the walk to school imgp2245 The cricket pavillion imgp2246 Nearly home: Sunset near Wickham Skeith, Suffolk
