Intel's 8085, launched in 1976, was binary compatible with the earlier 8080, but was cheaper and easier to build around as it only required a single 5V supply, compared to the older chip's +5, -5 and 12V requirements. It was not hugely popular as it ended up competing with Zilog's Z80, which was compatible with it but also much cheaper. It was Intel's last 8-bit processor.
