Seeing is believing: ACT Sirius 1 In the year that the IBM PC was launched in the UK comes this advert for the ACT Sirius 1. It was a rebranded Victor 9000 and was built by a company founded by 6502 designer and Commodore PET legend Chuck Peddle (who had even spent a while working for Apple). It preceded the IBM by several months and built up quite a lead in Europe. It had a very high specification for its day, including an 800x400 pixel display and nearly 1Mb memory, and had a large software library (it could run both CP/M-86 and MS-DOS). Victor Technologies, as the company came to be known, filed for bankruptcy in 1984, in the era of the great computer company shake-out of the mid 1980s.
