title The Preservation of Ickworth House, Horringer, Suffolk - 18th January 2024 intro We decide to visit Ickworth House for something to do, and also as we haven't been there for ages and our English Heritage cards aren't getting much use at the moment. The boys are at school so we get to do things like go for a walk without any comments about being bored. As it's off-season, the house is mostly closed, but there is a very interesting tour of a few of the state rooms explaining how some of the winter preservation is done. imgp0465 A frosty path, on the way to the church imgp0466 The partly-frozen pond imgp0468 An old lawnmower has stuff growing in the bucket imgp0469 The old Victorian hothouses imgp0471 The Earl's summerhouse is sadly closed for repairs imgp0473 A derelict garden shelter imgp0474 Isobel takes a photo of the lake imgp0476 A view of the bulrushes and the lake imgp0483 Icicles on a protruding branch imgp0489 The holiday cottage behind the lake imgp0490 Isobel looks around imgp0493 The Earl's summerhouse imgp0496 Shorn sheep and the Ickworth Rotunda imgp0500 A gnarly dead tree trunk imgp0505 Isobel in the woods imgp0508 The orangery has returned to its original purpose imgp0512 Preservation in the Pompeiian room imgp0514 The tourguide explains some preservation processes imgp0518 The Pompeiian room in Ickworth House imgp0522 A nice marble statue imgp0523 We're in a state dining room imgp0526 One of the impressive chandeliers imgp0528 A carpet underlay is sewn together in the library imgp0530 The fireplace in the library imgp0532 We get an introduction to old book cleaning imgp0535 Back in the entrance hall imgp0537 Big columns in Ickworth Hall imgp0539 We have a quick snack in the café imgp0540 Isobel pokes around in the shop
