title The Dereliction of Suffolk County Council, Ipswich, Suffolk - 3rd April 2012 intro Nosher's in Ipswich for a hair cut, but once that's done there's a bit of time to roam around town on the lookout for dereliction. A good source of this is Nosher's former place of work - the old Suffolk County Council HQ, or County Hall, around Rope Walk and St Helen's Street. It's scandalous to see the decay that's setting in to these once functional, vibrant and, in the case of St. Helen's Court, impressive buildings, for no particular reason other than presumably some building project that ran out of money. It's also unsettling in a existential/post-apocalyptic/28 Days Later style to see places actually worked in falling apart like this. imgp2263 Derelict buildings near Stoke Bridge imgp2265 A blue octopus, and some chromostereopsis imgp2268 St. Nicholas Street, Ipswich imgp2269 Funky street art on a boarded-up building imgp2270 A market in Cornhill, Ipswich imgp2271 The old Woolworth's building imgp2272 The old co-operative building imgp2273 The back of the Co-Operative Building in Ipswich imgp2280 The burnt-out remains of St. Michael's Church imgp2281 St. Michael's on Upper Orwell Street imgp2283 The remains of Barnes of Ipswich Ltd imgp2284 A ghost of the former Odeon sign imgp2286 The former Odeon Cinema building imgp2288 The wrecked clock tower of St Helen's Court imgp2289 The "World Food Store" on St Helen's Street imgp2291 St. Michael's Church, from a car park imgp2292 The corner of St. Helen's Street and Bond Street imgp2294 The castle-like entrance of St. Helen's Court imgp2296 The fire escape around the back of the main hall imgp2297 The back of St. Helen's and the "staff" entrance imgp2300 The atrium entrance to the Council Chambers imgp2301 A furnace chimney with "St Helens" on it imgp2303 The former home of Libraries & Heritage imgp2305 Smashed windows in the imgp2306 Another view of the remains of St. Michael's imgp2308 The mostly glassless main window of St. Michael's imgp2310 Wrecked buildings imgp2312 Boarded up building on Grimwade Street imgp2314 St. Edmund House - the old County Council offices imgp2315 The derelict remains of the SCC Social Club imgp2316 The steps up to the SCC Social Club imgp2317 Steel boardings on the Rope Walk social club imgp2318 Funky new college buildings on Rope Walk imgp2319 The old entrance to the Social Club imgp2320 The entrance to the former staff car park imgp2321 The last vestiges of Suffolk County Council imgp2322 The Grimwade Street entrance to St. Andrew's imgp2323 The barrier to St. Andrew's Grimwade Street imgp2328 Nature relaims the drive up past St. Andrew's imgp2330 Relatively unscathed windows on St. Andrew House imgp2331 St. Andrew's main entrance imgp2332 A wrought iron gate imgp2333 The front entrance to St. Andrew House imgp2334 Boarded up doors, badly-drawn swasticas and rubble imgp2335 A burned-out garage on Grimwade Street imgp2336 A mostly-empty shop on St. Helen's Street imgp2337 Boarded-up windows and a K6 phone box imgp2338 Heavily littered steps down to the basement imgp2343 The former Odeon cinema again imgp2344 Back-of-a-building signage for Fresh Kebab imgp2345 A last look at the old Co-op building
